Mountains & Lakes of New Hampshire

Welcome to New Hampshire
Today, arrive at a central New Hampshire hotel for a three night stay. Enjoy a warm welcome reception and later join your group for dinner. (Dinner)

Day Two
White Mountains
Begin our tour of scenic New Hampshire the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tram, where the ride goes to the top of the 4,180 foot mountain. From here on a clear day one can see forever – or at least to Vermont and Maine. Enjoy more mountain scenery on the way to the Cog Railway Visitor’s Center. Long before there were automobiles or electric lights or telephones, the powerful steam trains of the Mount Washington Cog Railway climbed the highest peak in the Northeast. This was the world’s first mountain-climbing cog railway, and today it’s the only one still powered entirely by steam.  Here we can enjoy lunch on our own, visit the museum and watch the cog as it climbs to the top of Mount Washington.  Then we’ll make  a picture stop at the famous Mount Washington Hotel. This lavish European-style spa turned Bretton Woods into a well-known resort. History was made at the hotel when the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund were founded at a 1944 conference. Next stop, North Conway – a town between the mountains and centered around the old railroad station. The main street is lined with shops, restaurants and other fun places. (Breakfast, Lunch)

Day Three
Lakes Region
Enjoy a morning cruise on Lake Winnipesaukee, the largest lake in New Hampshire. Surrounded by woods, with the hills rising up to the mountains, the scenery as seen from the lake is breath-taking. Disembark in Wolfeboro, which is known as one of the oldest summer resorts in America. Following some free time, travel to Moultonborough to visit Castle in the Clouds. Capture the breathtaking views of the mountains while enjoying a guided tour of the eccentric Millionaire Thomas Plant’s Mansion.  (Breakfast, Dinner)

Day Four
Depart for Home
After breakfast, depart for a visit to Canterbury Shaker Village, one of the few remaining Shaker communities. The village is now a museum and historic site. Tour original buildings which have been restored and get a glimpse into the simple lifestyle. Skilled artisans re-create the traditional Shaker crafts and nature trails wind through the herb gardens and mill ponds. Then it’s time to leave New Hampshire with memories of mountains, lakes and bits of history.(Breakfast)
